Our Troop is scheduled to participate in the Polaris ATV Experience at Summit Bechtel Reserve (from 6/8 to 6/15).  The crew of 12 (8 Scouts + 4 Adults) immediately filled up and have been preparing and planning for several months now.  They are really excited to attend.

The full cost is estimated to be $2,500. However, given that the trek is just a few months away, only Scouts who can immediately commit will be considered. At this point in the planning process, the only way to guarantee the spot reservation is to submit a non-refundable check for the amount paid to date by the crew. Further, this activity has strict age and physical restrictions imposed by the program, and final approval will be at the discretion of the crew leaders.

Finally, we are offering this spot to members of Troop 845 first; after one week, we will expand it and invite Scouts from other Troops.

H. Roe Bartle. Camp Bartle is a 10-day summer camp in Missouri near Joplin. Bartle offers the only ten-day camping session in the country with over 40 merit badge classes. Due to this, Scouts can potentially earn as many as nine merit badges! Not including the ones we usually offer ourselves in our own campsite! 

In addition to merit badges, Camp Bartle offers the opportunity to participate in the premier leadership program, Tribe of Micosay. This program teaches Scouts the importance of giving back by highlighting the Scout Oath and Scout Law while paying respect and appreciation to Native American culture.

Cris Dobbins. Nestled in the middle of the Black Forest in Colorado, Camp Cris Dobbins offers sweeping views of Pikes Peak and the front range of the Rocky Mountains. In this week-long campout Scouts will have a hard time choosing between the more than 50 merit badges and will love spending time on the water slides at the outdoor pool, paddling in the lake, hiking the many trails, or dusting a clay at the Olympic shotgun range. Not including the Trail-to-First Class program we usually offer in our own campsite!

THE COURSE: National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) is an exciting, action-packed six-day council-level program designed to provide Scouts in troops, crews, and ships with leadership skills and experience they can use in their home units and other situations demanding leadership of self and others. The course is designed for Scouts BSA members who are at least 13 years old; are First Class rank or above; and have successfully completed ILST training.

WHAT YOU WILL DO AND LEARN AT NYLT: NYLT: is filled with activities, presentations, challenges, discussions, and camping in a team and model unit environment. Participants learn and practice skills that are valuable at home, church, school, work, and the Scouting unit. Content is delivered in a troop and patrol outdoor setting with an emphasis on immediate application of learning in a fun environment. Interconnecting concepts and work processes are introduced early, built upon, and aided by the use of memory aids, which allows participants to understand and employ leadership skills much faster. These skills come alive during the week as the patrol goes on a Quest for the Meaning of Leadership.

THE RESULTS: First of all, you will have a lot of fun at NYLT! Activities are built around the idea that Scouting is “a game with a purpose.” You will meet new friends that share your interest in Scouting and in becoming a stronger leader. Participants report that NYLT helped them develop better communication skills, greater ability to coordinate activities and program, increased understanding of the roles and skills of a leader, and many more.
